The secret to growing on LinkedIn in 2024

There's a rising demand for high-quality video content on LinkedIn, creating a major growth opportunity.

“Kobe!”

It’s what you yell when you shoot something into the trash can.

Kobe Bryant was one of the best professional basketball players ever, but he can also teach you how to become a great copywriter.

The answer is more straightforward than you think.

This hidden gem story about Kobe Bryant will show you how:

In 2007, Nike hosted the first-ever Kobe Bryant Skills Academy.

A 3-day mini-camp with the country's top high school and college players.

All there to learn from Kobe — the best player in the game.

Nike also flew out Alan Stein Jr.

Alan is a world-renowned coach, speaker, and author. He spent 15+ years working with the best basketball players on the planet.

The story starts with Alan.

Alan gets to camp, and the first chance he gets, he walks over to Kobe.

He asks Kobe if he could watch one of his private workouts.

Kobe replies: "Sure, man. I'm going tomorrow at 4."

This response leaves Alan confused.

The first camp workout is at 3:30.

Kobe senses his confusion.

Gives him a wink 😉

And says: "Yeah, that's 4am."

Alan has no excuse not to show.

What else could he be doing at 4am?

So he takes it as an opportunity to impress Kobe.

He shows up at 3:30am.

As Alan gets out of his cab at 3:30am, he can see that the gym light is already on from the parking lot.

As he gets closer, he starts to hear a ball bouncing and sneakers squeaking.

Alan enters the gym, and Kobe is already in a full sweat.

Kobe was going through an intense warmup before his workout started.

So Alan sits down and begins to watch.

And what he sees shocks him.

For the first 45 min, he watched Kobe practice the most basic footwork and offensive moves.

Stuff that Alan routinely teaches to middle school players.

But Kobe was practicing these moves at an unmatched level of precision.

The next day, Alan sees Kobe at camp and can't help but ask:

"You're the best player in the world. Why are you doing such basic drills?"

Kobe smiles and replies:

Why do you think I'm the best player in the world?

Because I never get bored with the basics.

Let that sink in.

"I never get bored with the basics."

People tend to overcomplicate many challenges in life — myself included.

But most success comes from small things performed consistently over an extended period.

As soon as we realize this, it starts showing up everywhere.

The Twitter account with 500k followers.

The newsletter with 100k subscribers.

The business worth $1 billion.

None of that happened overnight.

  • ✅ Small actions.

  • ✅ Done consistently.

  • ✅ Over an extended period.

Never get bored with the basics.

Copywriting is no different:
