4 Qs to write better copy
Use every time you sit down to write.
Welcome to the 39th issue of Write On!
The newsletter that has gone international. I’m writing this issue on a train from Milan to Venice, Italy.

Write better email campaigns, 10x faster
I’ve tried a bunch of different AI writing tools. Hoppy Copy is one of my favorites.
It’ll help you save countless hours of writing by quickly generating hundreds of different email marketing campaigns, drips, newsletters, and more.
They have over 50 Email AI Templates that use scientifically proven formulas to generate copy for just about any type of email you can think of — including their Seinfeld Lead Nurture sequence.
It’s pretty awesome. Give ‘em a shot and let me know what you think!
4 questions you need to answer to write better copy
When I sit down to write copy, I run through this quick checklist of 4 questions to keep my writing on track.
Try these out on your next email:
1) What do you want the reader to do?
I start with the end in mind.
You can’t write persuasive copy if the next step for the reader is unclear.
So get specific on what you want to accomplish with your copy.
Is it:
To visit your website?
To make a purchase?
Fill out a form?
This decision sets up everything else.
2) Why should they care?
This question ensures I focus all of my copy on the reader instead of myself or the product/service.
It’s one of the most important rules of copywriting.
It’s all about the reader.
Customers don’t want to buy my course because I put 100+ hours into creating it.
They buy it because they want to achieve a desired outcome.
Write about the desired outcomes they care about.
3) Why should they believe you?
Sleazy marketing has made people skeptical.
Even the most recognizable brands in the world still need to prove their credibility.
e.g. If Apple launches a new iPhone and claims that it’s waterproof, is everybody going to believe them?
No. Many won’t believe it until they see it.
So Apple still needs to back up their claims.
If Apple still has to prove their value, you definitely need to.
Real customer reviews and stories are the best way to do that, in my experience.
4) Why now?
The best way to create urgency isn’t with “limited-time-only” sales.
It’s by solving an urgent problem.
So raise the stakes in your copy.
What is the consequence of NOT taking action?
e.g. If you’re selling headphones, you’re selling:
Headphones that stay in your ear while you’re exercising
Headphones that don’t run out of battery on your long commute
Headphones that drown out crying babies on your train ride from Milan to Venice
💡 Bottom line: Write more persuasive copy by answering these 4 questions every time you sit down to write.
